you know what's strange?
i actually told my folks that for my generation, i do not believe
in the "you owe your parents.. blah blah blah" bit...
i will make sure they will be well..
i will make sure i will not be destitute
if i have children, i will make sure they will not feel that they
are indebted to me...
in that way, i hope to break the "filial piety" chains which
hamstring a lot of asian people..
as a parent, you owe your children because you chose to put them on
earth.. they never asked to be put on earth and because of that,
parents have a sacred duty to make sure they are well brought up
and unencumbered, without baggage both financial and emotional, to
find their own way in life...
